Line released for Tennessee-Indiana in Taxslayer Gator Bowl - 247Sports

Tennessee ended the regular season with five straight wins. Las Vegas isn't sure if that winning streak will continue in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl.

Tennessee (7-5, 5-3) and Indiana (8-4, 5-4) opened as pick'em for the Jan. 2 game (7 p.m. Eastern Time, ESPN) at TIAA Bank Stadium in Jacksonville, with the over/under at 51.5 according to Circa Sports at the Golden Gate Hotel in Las Vegas.

The two programs have met just once on the football field, with Tennessee winning 27-22 in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Jan. 2, 1988.

Indiana’s regular-season ended with two losses over the last three weeks, at Penn State (34-27) and Michigan (39-14).

The Hoosier won seven of their first nine games, with losses at Ohio State (51-10) and at Michigan State (40-31).

Indiana’s seven wins came against Ball State, Eastern Illinois, Connecticut, Rutgers, at Maryland, at Nebraska, Northwestern and at Purdue, in double overtime.

Tennessee, meanwhile, beat South Carolina, UAB, at Kentucky, at Missouri and Vanderbilt in a streak to the finish line of the regular-season schedule.

After starting the season 1-4, with back-to-back upset losses against Georgia State and BYU to start the season, Tennessee won six of its final seven games to get back to bowl season for the first time since going to the Music City Bowl at the end of the 2016 season.

Indiana’s Peyton Ramsey and Michael Penix Jr, a former Tennessee commitment, combined for 3,621 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, against eight interceptions.

Ramsey threw for 2,227 yards and 10 touchdowns while Penix had 1,394 yards and 10 scores. Both quarterbacks were picked off four times each.

Stevie Scott III is the leading rusher, carrying 178 times this season for 845 yards and 10 touchdowns. Whop Philyor is the leading receiver, with 1,001 yards and five touchdowns on 69 catches.

Tennessee went 7-5 against the spread this season, beating Mississippi State (5.5 points), South Carolina (4.5 points), Kentucky (1.5 points) and Missouri (2.0 points) as underdogs.

The Vols covered a 35-point spread in a 35-13 loss at then-No. 1 Alabama. They didn’t cover a 23-point spread against Vanderbilt or the 24.5-point line against Georgia in a 43-14 loss.

Indiana is also 7-5 against the spread this season. The Hoosiers failed to cover against Ball State (+18 points), Ohio State (-18 points), Maryland (-6.5 points), Michigan (+9.5 points) and Purdue (-7 points).

They covered against Eastern Illinois (+36 points), Connecticut (-27 points), Michigan State (+14 points), Rutgers (-28 points), Nebraska (+2.5 points), Northwestern (-8.5 points) and Penn State (+15 points).
