PEORIA (WEEK) – Despite today’s falling snow, people came together for the memorial of Peoria firefighter Vernon “Butch” Gudat who died 37 years ago in the line of duty.
His death marks the last line of duty death for the Peoria Fire Department. His family created a fund in his honor to continue his legacy in the firefighting community.
“So every year, it’s incredible – the family, the friends, the support of those who come out to honor our father,” said Butch’s son Mike. “Who are here to support him and support Michele and I quite honestly and we’re really here to support them as well, the fire department of Peoria.”
The family is already working on the 2021 memorial for Captain Butch Gudat.
