Steelers vs. Browns prediction, line: Pittsburgh the pick - New York Post

Before the season started, this Thursday nighter between Pittsburgh and Cleveland looked like a marquee matchup, but the Browns haven’t lived up to their offseason hype and the Steelers lost Ben Roethlisberger and stumbled out of the gate.

Now, the Steelers (5-4 straight up, 6-3 against the spread) have won four straight to get themselves into the AFC wild-card hunt behind a strong defense with Mason Rudolph (64.5 percent, 11 touchdowns, just four interceptions) proving more than serviceable at quarterback. The Browns (3-6 SU, 2-6-1 ATS after pushing in their 19-16 win Sunday over the Bills), meanwhile, have won a whopping one straight, though the apologists are telling us this talented team still has a shot at the playoffs.

I’m not buying it. The Browns are still flawed and haven’t learned how to win. They’re also burdened by coach Freddie Kitchens. The Steelers are still the better team (credit to coach Mike Tomlin for keeping this team competitive in spite of all their key losses) and I’m expecting them to continue their dominance against their division rival (7-0-1 the past four years with just one fluke tie in Week 1 last year) and will gladly take the points, though I also will be looking to bet the money line.

Some books have been lowering this line to 2¹/₂ (based on sharp money betting the Steelers, so I understand the move). If you’re scared off by taking just +2¹/₂, I’d tease it up to +8¹/₂ and pair it with the Jaguars teased up to +8¹/₂ on Sunday versus the Colts.

The play: Steelers, +3.
