A proposal to build a power line that would cross forests in rural Maine to import power for Massachusetts came a step closer to reality, but it could face another big test with voters.
The utility Central Maine Power Co. won approval Wednesday from a state land-use regulator for a $950 million, 145-mile line that would import hydropower from Quebec. The company hopes to break ground in May and finish in late 2022 but still needs to secure further federal and state clearances.
