TC Line calls for Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 - Longmont Times-Call

Both sides

So the right things your editorial page is biased, and the left thinks your editorial page is biased. Good job.

Biased media

It seems like about three-quarters of the articles in the paper are basically saying, by the American press, that we’re still angry that Trump got elected and so we’re going to spin our news articles as negatively as possible, in spite of the incredible economy, incredible things occurring in foreign affairs, NATO nations picking up their own tabs, the whole schmear. It isn’t his job to be liked by foreign leaders, it’s his job to be liked by us, and I think he’s doing a bang up job and the press is doing everything they can to make it look otherwise.

Sarcasm

There is a saying that a person who uses sarcasm for humor is a person who has no faith. Sarcasm in the TC Line could be misconstrued by those under-educated or people with no filters. They will believe that your sarcastic statements are the truth. I think we should limit sarcasm on the TC Line for the benefit of those who suffer when they find out you haven’t been telling the truth.

President Trump

How about being fair about true advertising for President Trump? How about listing the good things that have come about in 2019 that has President Trump’s name on it? Then list the negative things that have come about in 2019. Seems no one really wants to list the good, positive things. … I think they’re just slamming the president with no regard to what he has done that’s good and what he hasn’t done that’s not so good.

Dem operatives

When reading the TC Line and the rhetoric of those anti-Trumpers, I have tried to study the voice, I have tried to study the tone, I have tried to study the talking points. I’ve come to the conclusion that one of two things is happening: Either we’re reading things that were called in by Democratic operatives, or we’re reading from people calling in that are woefully ill-informed and believe everything the Democratic operatives are saying.

Political correctness

A story in Saturday’s Times-Call illustrates a problem with political correctness in this overly litigious society. A woman talks inappropriately to a black student at CU and this sparks calls for reform at the university. Just because one person is racist and acts out of line doesn’t mean that everyone else needs to be punished. Government and many large corporations frequently overreact to situations like this because of fear of being sued.
